Biosphere Reserves of India


Biosphere Reserve are multipurpose protected areas which are meant for preserving genetic diversity in representative ecosystem by protecting wild population, traditional life style of tribals and domesticated plant and animal genetic resources.
 India has 14 biosphere reserves. The first biosphere reserve in India was set up in 1986 in Nilgiri.
