Digestive system is a system of organs and glands which are involved in obtaining food, its crushing, digestion, absorption, assimilation and egestion of indigestible matter.
The digestive system of a mammal consists of alimentary canal (digestive tract) and associated glands. The alimentary is long tube of 8-10 meters in length. It includes the following structures: Mouth and buccal cavity, Oesophagus, stomach, small intestine, and large intestine. Associated glands are those glands which secrete digestive juices for the digestion of food. Associated glands are salivary glands, gastric glands, liver, pancreas, and intestinal glands.
